AHC: A Minimum Legal Drinking Age in All 50 US States.

In the present day, the United States of America has a minimum legal drinking age of 18 (or 19) in every State of the Union, in like with Europe, Latin America, China, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and most other countries.

Have something big happen internationally that keeps the youth politically motivated in the 80s like a Korea or Vietnam sized war.

According to my political science professor (a graduate student at OU during the implementation of the 21 y/o drinking age) the MADD data was based on a statistical outlier. Essentially, the trend of drunk driving deaths had gone done steadily from the 1960's due to increases in car safety except for one year. MADD latched onto this and essentially, as a result of a "think of the children"-esque misrepresentation of the data convinced congress to pass the law.

Depending on how true that is, one would need to be able to show the error in MADD's drunk driving deaths to reduce the pressure they could put on Washington to get the law passed.

When did the PR campaign about designating a driver begin? I'd think the public service afs have to have reduced drunk driving.

One of the problems with trying to fix it now is that nanny staters have grown in number while liberals have largely disappeared. In 1996 the Louisiana Supreme Court struck down the 21 drinking age (rightfully so as the state constitution forbids age discrimination), and the New York Times published an opinion piece calling Louisiana barbaric. That's the kind of thinking that would have to be overcome. And you obviously aren't going to get too many religious right types on board with loosened alcohol restrictions, so the Repubs will be of little use.

The MADD campaign was based on "blood border" emotional appeals, basically the idea that if 18 to 20 year olds crossed state lines to drink and then got behind the wheel, it was the fault of the state that had the lower drinking age and not the fault of the person who drank and then got behind the wheel. It was a bogus argument, but it carried the day.

Didn't they change the drinking age to 21 due to many teenagers drinking and driving? I remember my mom was able to drink at 18 years old in fact back when she was in high school they had alcohol served at graduation ceremonies.

And another thing is though unlike the US, Europe is culturally different when it comes to things especially alcohol. Most people in Europe have wine with their meals and having wine in small amount is in matter of healthy for you. I mean there are going to be a couple of teenagers in Denmark, France, Italy and Germany getting drunk over alcohol as well as drunk drivers. But over all it not a common thing over there like it is in US.

The culture of the US on drinking today isn't the culture of the US on drinking in the say 50s or 60s.

One of the biggest media and public efforts in US history unintentionally moved America towards binge drinking and away from social drinking.

How could in the future the Drinking Age be lowered to the same age as "Age of Majority" 18.
For all we know it even very possible for the age of majority to be even lowered from 18 in the future due to advances in technology and society. However there the problem with the age of majority though. Your doesn't really stop developing until your mid 20's and some even argue it doesn't stop until your 30's. In other words even 21 year olds are still questioning themselves as well when it comes to responsibility and such.

Because back in ancient times and even into the early 1900's, the concept of being a teenager really didn't exist. They pretty much believed you were a child and then an adult. And lets say your parents died and you got no financial inheritance from them, well tough shit because society back in those days believed that 10 year olds and 12 year olds were miniature adults.

So regardless the age of majority really doesn't imply when it comes to your brain development. I mean you are considered legally an adult at 18 in most countries in the world, but you still aren't mentally completely an adult yet.

Unfortunately yes... But then same happened to other places like Australia and Canada too.

I think a lot of people remain a mental 12 year old all their lifes, a good part of the Population, including many in power, maybe Presidents?.
