AHC: A Japanese Hawaii after 1870

Your challenge, should you choose to blah, blah, blah, is to have a Japanese Hawaii with a POD after 1870.

Have fun.

1881.

King Kalakaua went to Japan, and did attempt to arrange a marriage between his Niece and Komatsu Akihito of the Fushima Branch.
It was rejected because he already was in an arranged marriage.

However, sense the POD is 1870, we could tweek it so that Crown Prince Yoshihito died as a child. Emperor Meiji had fifteen children and only five of them lived to adulthood, with Yoshihito as the Only boy.

The second problem is having Emperor Meiji die.
The 1860-1881 was unstable in Japan, so it might be possible to kill him around here.
Or maybe he just gets sick.

with no Male heir, all of the Former Emperor Meiji's siblings died while they were young, the Fushimi-no-miya can now ascend to the throne, Making either Prince Komatsu Akihito, or Prince Fushimi Kuniye (his father) Emperor.

Then around now, Kalakaua makes his offer and it is accepted.

Princess Kaiulani and Komatsu Akihito, then have a Boy.

Sense Japan now has a Legitimate claim to the Hawaiian Throne, It could Butterfly away the 1887 Bayonet Constitution.

now when Akihito dies, His son can take the throne of Both Japan and Hawaii, forming a sort of Duel Kingdom.

This is, however, a very longshot with lots of problems, but it's the best I can do.

Kaiulani was Kalakaua's niece. I would wonder if such a marriage would trigger an earlier attempt by the Americans, either in Hawaii or the US, to seize the islands.

Thats a possibility. Another in my opinion would involve an aggressivley expansionist Japan, who might just outright colonize/conquer the islands.

Of course, this might provoke a response from the US...

Thanks.

Are you assuming Kalakaua still comes to power the same way? If so, the 1874 riots will bring British and American troops, who you will then need to get rid of if Hawaii is to become 'truly' Japanese. Unless they can come up with an alternative agreement.

For that scenario I was.

However, if the third POD is Kalakaua winning the 1873 Elections, then It might butterfly the Rebellions.
"might" of course being the key word.
