AHC: A Great Society

With a POD no earlier than November 23, 1963, keep LBJ in office until 1972 and allow him to finish his Great Society reforms, then comment on the effects.

GO!

just read A Land of Milk and Honey by Roguebeaver. Basically all you need to do is eliminate Vietnam, which also makes Bobby more agreeable, and there you go. Nixon probably doesn't run in 1968, meaning that it's probably Rockefeller, Romney, Reagan, or Goldwater who faces LBJ in 1968. LBJ probably wins, though by a narrower margin than 1964. The programs are likely more effective with the full focus of the government behind them, but they don't solve poverty (only the free market can truly do that). LBJ is viewed as a good President, comparable to Eisenhower or Clinton. In 1972 a Republican is probably elected by attacking big government and domestic unrest, as will still happen regardless of Vietnam or not. That Republican will probably be forced to live with the Great Society, but might pass reforms that end up strengthening it in the long run.
