AHC: A better Philippines post-1986

Make the country post-1986 to be a huge success story with not only a stable government but a huge and thriving economy with growing a middle class ,fairly transparent government , little to no corruption (or at least negligible amounts), and a strong foundation for the rule of law , along with better infrastructure .

Erap does not get toppled, gets on his way on crushing the Muslim rebels, also the commies. With heavy and strong US aid and support after the 9/11, they later crushed those movements and later decides to inject huge amounts of money, investments, aid and loans towards the Philippines. The huge amounts of loans, aid and money will be used to fund initiatives to build infrastructure, be spent on education, social services, agriculture etc go in heavy deficit spending. Also put in cut taxes and give aid to the working class and poor Cut taxes to the middle class. Aside from that give huge tax cuts and subsidies to the businesses and corporation, put out alot of regulations and open it more except don't open it on important strategic sectors of the economy. Like telcos.

The truth of the matter: the EDSA revolution was at its heart the overthrow of one oligarch clique by another, and the overthrown clique given mercy was never going to stop bitching about its right to rule. And the clique that did the overthrowing threw those who would have reformed this country under the bus in its attempts to allay the concerns of the oligarchs as a whole. Cory Aquino was a toothless figurehead for the oligarchs and almost every other persident of the Philippines after her has been passively or actively undermining the rule of law and perverting the idea of justice that the EDSA revolution promised. The Philippines under those circumstances was never going to be a success story.

For a success story, you need to actively purge the government of oligarchs and their shills, and redistribute their land equitably, all while assuring the Americans that this is no communist revolution. A nigh impossible task that would take years, if not decades.

Marcos decide to consolidate powers by launching massive reform. Redistributing land to poor philiphines. welfare and health reform. Corruption crackdown. Strong Union under his control. Etc.

Marcos himself was aiming to establish himself as essentially a king of the oligarchs, and established himself and his regime using traditional sources of power, i.e. cultivating the landlords rather than the peasants. Also consider that such reforms would be seen as communist by the Americans.
