AHC: A Bahai Iran

The Bahai faith has the disadvantage of being both a young religion (the first declaration of its teachings by the Bab being in 1844 and its official start not until 1863) and springing up in the middle of a land with an oppressive, conservative government. It didn't help that they were condemned by leaders of the very, very large Shia majority as apostates of Islam. Heck, I'm just surprised the movement survived its first few decades.

Still, by 1852 it had around 100,000 followers when a few extremists attempted to assassinate the Shah. The entire movement was blamed, a few thousand 'Babis' slaughtered, and some imprisoned in a nasty Tehran dungeon.

Maybe if the extremists can be dissuaded from the attempt, or if something else prevented the plot from getting off the ground and condemning the entire movement, the Babis would stand a better chance of swaying more people over to their side and becoming a larger minority. Modern Bahai probably wouldn't arise from this scenario, as Baha'u'lla's visions came while he was imprisoned, but this seems the best chance for followers of the Bab to gain a stronger foothold in Iran. I'm not sure if they could ever dominate all of those Shias, but if the next cultural upset swings in their favor, they could certainly be a minority with some serious influence.

It's close to ASB plausibility.

I wrote this a while ago:

In 1603, *Shaykhism emerges.

In 1697, *Babism emerges.

In 1700, Abdulwaheed is born.

In 1735, the Waheed Faith is revealed to Abdulwaheed.

In 1745, the Waheed Faith spreads to India.

In 1755, a Waheed State is established in Persia.

In 1770, Abdulwaheed dies.

In 1799, Persia is united under a Waheed dynasty.

Abdul al-Waheed- a Biography

The man, known to history as, Abd al-Waheed was born in Kermanshah, Persia to a Persian-Kurdish mother and a Turkish-Armenian father in the Year -30 of the New Calendar (1700 CE, 1111 AH, 1079 Persian). Thirty five years later, Abd al-Waheed first received the Light of God and founded the Waheed Faith. Because he reflected the Light of God, he held the title of Mirror of God.

But is it possible that if there was no assasination attempt on Shah, that one of Shahs could give support to Bahai's ( at least stop the persecution ) in a effort to use them as a tool to modernise Iran?

Visions of conservatives aiming for his death come to mind.

A reason to overthrow the monarchy and establish an Islamic republic as compelling as that from OTL.
