I mean, if we're positing a world where Dukakis won in '88, it's probably safe to assume that— in this TL— he has appeal outside of "educated New England liberals".

As the incumbent President, the Democratic base nationwide would be mostly loyal to him - with the exception of Reagan Democrats in the Midwest and South who could potentially swing the election towards Dole.

The same folks who gave Reagan two landslide victories and who in 1988 stuck largely with Bush.
