AH: Unified Celtic state not in Gaul

Would it have been possible for a unified Celtic state to have been (eventually) established outside of Gaul during the time of the Roman Republic/Empire? Perhaps with a POD of Burebista being defeated by the Boii and the Taurisci and the destruction of the Dacians? Or somewhere in Pannonia or Dalmatia?

Edit: Then perhaps after the defeat of Burebista, the Celts siding with Caesar during the Great Roman Civil War

The Lusitianians in Iberia under the leadership of Variathus had a good chance of making a unified Celtic nation in Iberia. At this time the Lusitanians were pretty much completely Celticized, and they had hegemony over the Celtiberians and other such Celtic tribes.

The Scordisci had a pretty good run of things in Pannonia and Illyria.

If the Romans were defeated at the Battle of Telemon, I could see the Boii or Insubres leading a unification of Cisalpine Gaul.

my guess the Pannonian celts could get it done...iff the romans, macromani, quadi, succesor dacians, Sarmatians (the OTL whole bunch) dont finish it off first:(

had a topic on it a while ago: avoid getting them screwed by the encrouching Germanic tribes.

I've been reading about the Scordisci today, but from what i've read it appears that they weren't a Celtic group per say, rather a Celtic elite over the indigenous population. Although I could be mistaken.

Just had a read of your thread. Very similar to the ideas i've had in my mind for this thread

You are not mistaken. The enitre process of la teneisation is a very confusing one and it is very hard to discern if a community had been conquered and created by migrating celts or simply changed under cultural influence. After you expand further beyond the original la tene neighbourhood it is almost immposible to determine who were the people that brought la teneisation, were they "real" celts or simply a non-celtic people that have been la teneised in the previous stage of the expansion.

As for the Scordisci they were mostly native with a sprinkling of newcomers.

The Celts in Dacia were the same thing pretty much

My guess the most important thing to do (besides eliminating a strong Dacia) is dealing with the Macromani. from what I have been reading they rulled over the remainder of the Boii. I always thought the celts where already in decline during this period, but I can make mistakes.

iff they could grow in strength after defeating the Dacians (which will certainly turn on themselves as they did OTL when Burebista died) they could hold of the Macromani, maybe even absord some lesser tribes into a confederation of some sort

during the Roman civil war, I could see them join the conflict with Caesar. after all: the Tetrarch of Galatia supported Pompey, land his son later supported Marcus antonius.
