I'm working on a timeline for a more Dystopic America where more bad things happened in the 60s and after than did in the OTL. I do believe I will keep Nixon winning in 1968 and all, given what he is in our history (the mad king), but I'm stuck on what I would like to do with him.

I have two options. First is having him resigning over a scandal (Watergate or whatever it might otherwise be), and playing with ways to have that all messed up, and that is certainly a nice bit of chaos as much as it was in the OTL and can be made more so. Second would be to have him not impeached or forced to resign, but would be to have him continue in office until 1977 when his term was over. The benefits to Dystopia here is that that allows Nixon to do all the secret naughty and authoritarian things the Nixon White House was capable of (wiretapping opponents, plotting murders of journalists that can't keep their mouths shut, etc). The downside is that so far as I know, no Watergate situation would make Nixon beloved as a figure, and not the figure of mixed opinion (at best) symbolizing the abuse of power of the Imperial presidency, and he would thus also not serve as the total death of American post-war optimism that began with the Kennedy assassination.
