AH Round Robin: Henry's other wife

rather than go through the mess of having six wives, England's Henry the 8th tries something else.

(and yes, the lass really did give birth to a boy Henry recognized in OTL)

edit: you can ignore the Edward, Elizabeth, and Jane if you want.

Oooh, this looks entertaining... :)

Henry VIII dies in 1520.

Uh, the only way we can really get this to work is for Katherine of Aragon to die while giving birth to Mary Tudor in February 1516. Let's say that, in the aftermath of Katherine's death, Henry is consoled by Blount (formerly part of Katherine's entourage). Their relationship moves faster than OTL, and they marry in 1517, producing the following issue:

- Elizabeth (1517-23)
- Henry [IX] (b. 1519)

Henry is involved in a horse-riding accident shortly after the birth of a son in late 1519, finally dying from the injuries in March 1520.

What happens next? Presumably, we're looking at some sort of regency...

For a second I misread the diagram, and was wondering how to manufacture a PoD that would allow Henry VIII to set up a Church of England that permitted a polygamous head - in the style of the Old Testement.

You have very cool handwriting, y'know. Very... 18th-Century.

The idea of a Tudor line lasting more than three generations is an interesting one, and I'm surprised it isn't mentioned more often.

This would really screw with the English Reformation. Choice of Regent basically determines how peacefully England becomes Protestant (I think it's a bit foregone that it will become Protestant, although there could still be a counter-reformation as in Italy).

could any regent paper over the issue with ex-Queen Katherine? or does the Pope think "I can't back down from my stance"?

who are the regent choices?

(and which will the next person in the round robin select?)

Cardinal Thomas Wolsey, Archbishop of York and Lord Chancellor.

It seems fairly safe to assume that, in TTL, he would remain under the auspices of the crown until Henry VIII's death in 1520. And assuming he gets on with Blount, who better to oversee the regency? There will probably be murmurings of discontent from Thomas Howard, Duke of Norfolk, but Henry's early death precludes Wolsey's fall from grace ... his power is still relatively entrenched and - barring disaster - should provide Henry IX with ten years of protection (until Wolsey's death in 1530).

Now, what would that do for English foreign policy (1520-30)?
