AH Joke: Leeeroy Jeeenkins!

Although this is a good pun, I believe it is sadly impossible.

For one, Jenkins is not likely to be a first name, and every King was called by his first name, in every European monarchy.
Second, it doesn't really sound French. Even if a French king married a foreigner princess, the first names are likely to be French.
Lastly : considering how often a French king (or pretender) was called Louis, Charles, Philippe or Henri, Jenkins would probably be a lesser choice.

Not impossible: merely improbable, given the vagaries of French pronunciation.

If you were to have fifteen French kings named John, the fifteenth would be Le Roi Jean Quinze.

Of course, even then the pun is broken anyhow, since the usual pronunciation of Leroy in English (li:roi) and Le Roi (le rua) is different.

Good point. I had not look at the problem from this angle...

So, all we need is to find a way to have up to fifteen Kings of France called John. Still a little hard to do.

Have the first few win some important battles and it becomes associated with luck and winning battles?

Some small African colony goes out of favour, loses its place on the map, suffers a bit of an economic downturn as France doesn't send anymore stuff their way, some guy has a coup against the illegitimate "Colonial" government (now that France doesn't want the colony that's too expensive to run and doesn't give much back, useless strategically as well) and declares himself "Le Roi Jenkins". No one really cares about the tiny new African kingdom, but eventually Le Roi Jenkins decides that instead of listening to his wise military planners (aka: his guild) he will rush into British territory creaming his own name and dragging his nation into a conflict they can not win...

Cmon guys, no challengers to my idea? It was the most comprehensive (with the guild following him into the battle)...

Even simpler: Have someone like Elvis be born to a family named Jenkins, and have him become so popular in France (or some other Francophone country) that the appellation "Le Roi" gets stuck with him. Because it isn't a true royal title, it's possible that it might be used at least by some people with the last name.

Well, there were God only knows how many Louises (19, according to wiki, and not counting pretenders, I think...), so having "John" be the new "Louis" doesn't seem that hard...

Also, the King of France doesn't have to be *French*--if there's anything the English proved, that's it (although they weren't *successful*--but that just means its a tough event).
