AH:Have Canada take more of a 'active' role in the Cold War

I know this sounds impossible and its probably true, but is their any POD that can allow Canada to like the tin says: Take more of a active role during the Cold War. Maybe, telling the US straight up that Vietnam isn't such a good idea or secretly sending aid to the UK and France during the Suez Crisis. I know those two things might piss off the US, but honestly why DIDN'T Canada tell the US"Listen..I know this isn't gonna come out like how it should, but I think that going further into Vietnam isn't stop them.."Oh, and what about having Canada GO into Vietnam with the US?

Lester pearson did have an active role in the Cold War. Diplomacy and peace-keeping. Trudeau could have suggested Canadian participation in Vietnam, but it would likely have been on the other side and wouldn't have been received so well.

100% agreed. Pearson did publicly disagree with LBJ on 'Nam (Temple University speech, 1966), and LBJ told him to STFU and mind his own business. You would need a Conservative government in 1956, which is basically ASB in a world without serious butterflies dating back to the 1920s. Easier in '68 (PET isn't elected leader, or Stanfield forces a dissolution in mid-leadership campaign on the February '68 money vote), but public option still says no.
