AH Fashion descriptions

A thread for alternate timeline fashions. Inspired slightly by this thread. Also inspired by the mod Lux Invicta for Crusader Kings 2. Feel free to post ideas, questions and possible descriptions here!

For Example:

Hellenized Somalians c.100 CE
Hellenic/Hellenistic tunics, chlamys and chiton (for men), strophion (for women) unisex ornamental accessories (clasps, pins, belts, sashes, and girdles). Mixed with traditional somalian clothing (Macawis sarong for men, colorful diracs for women, etc) Both Hellenes and Somalis would sometimes wear the other's fashions, as if mixing to someday create a fused culture. Hairstyles kept usually homogenous between Hellenes and Somalis, but sometimes cross over as well. Military hellenized with pikemen, composite bowmen, cavalry and elephants, equipped with hellenistic armor.

Unlike the other thread, new repliers don't have to necessarily answer the immediate post previous, but can respond to ones posted before.

So to start:

The nobility and wealthy would wear thin robes and cloakes dyed red or scarlet, made from an insect called a kermes.
Leather sandels were common with nobility, with the wealthiest of them having leather straps that went to the bottom of the robe.

Middle class people were able to have simple tunics and cloakes dyed by inexpensive dyes were made from plants, resulting in some green and yellow cloth.

Accessories were worn mainly by these groups of people, mainly consisted of metal jewellery (from tin and copper all the way up to silver and gold.)

The hairstyle of these two groups consisted of long hair, in a single pony tail at the back for men and plated for wom and with men growing long beards and mustaches.

The peasant and working class people wore tops which were made to finish just above the knee in colors close to the natural state of the fabric, usually brown or beige.
Thier shoes were mainly wooden soled, with cloth rapped around to make the rest of the shoe.
The hair was kept short of this class, due to cost of maintence and cut hair was sold to the rich.

The military consisted mainly of light cavalry, basic bowman and light infantry. Due to the temperatures of Africa, light chain mail was worn, while the generals of an army worn specially made robes from the hid and head of an Atlas lion, because they believed the animal's strengths and wisdom would be given to them during battles.

Holy shit that's good. Wait, are no technological advancements for these guys over the last 500 years? (like new helmets or shields n stuff?). What would the Kings look like? Other than that excellent job.

I passed it on a mixture of Frank, Roman and Cathagan clothes with a twist, especially the Atlas Lion suit. Technology advances slowly, dont forget 500 years in the medieval period did not see dramatic changes.

Your talking about northern africa (which is mostly covered by Sahara desert) so metal helmets would cause more harm then help.
shilds would have to light enought to carry so may become a useless if too heavy or too week

As for the king, i was thinking of turning away from the European type monarch and taking an idea from the East.
Instead of having a heavy metal crown on their head, the king may find a large hat made of cloth, with a single jewle.
Sounds silly but similar to the disney idea of an islamic sultan:

Pure clean white cotton would stand out perfectly as well.

I did not know how much to put :) fashion is always a facinating and key point in history that always seems to gets over looked :)

Then how come the Carthaginians and Berbers used them all the time? Coastal North Africa west of Tripoli was more Mediterranean, not exactly desert you know...

Ah whatever.

I just prefer the lions head over something like this:

As it looks to robust, the neck chainmail gives the men an excuse to turn around and flee and i cant see this being given to everyone in 1000 ad as proved when in 1066, not every one in the battle of Hastings had a helmet

The Divine-Imperial Regalia of the Solar God-Emperor of Rhomaion (Sol Invictus worship, rulers declared divine incarnations of the Sun made-flesh) c.1000 CE

The Divine-Imperial Regalia was also known as the "Five Mystical Tools of Sol Invictus" given to the God-Emperor at both of his semi-annual coronations.
On the days of the Summer and the Winter solstice, all the priest of Rhomaion, gather to coronate their God-Emperor.

At the coronation the five items are placed upon the G-E, (who stands on a white marble pedestal, in just a gold cloth covering their nether regions) by the High Priest and four Arch-Priests of Rhomaion, in this order and location:

1st - The Radiant Crown - Placed upon their head, with the sun facing towards the crowd, at the point where the sun comes through the temple's main window and hits the G-E's forehead.

2nd - The Face of Sol - A golden necklace, with a golden medallion, depicting the face of Sol, which rest on the bare chest of the G-E, to represent the holy and intermit connection of Sol and the G-E.

3rd - The Holy Book - A book that is held by the High Priest and placed into the Right Hand of the G-E, to represent that the G-E will do as Sol has said by Sol's teachings in this book.

4th - The Torch - A golden torch that has be kept a light since the day of Prometheus, placed into the Left Hand of the G-E, represent that the G-E, will carry on lighting the Earth, from Darkness, once Sol has rested for another day.

5th - The Bow, Quiver and Arrows - Strapped around the back of the G-E, this represents that the G-E, is willing to fight if need, but that war is not their first choice.

At the end of the coronation, the God-Emperor should look a mixture of the pictures bellow:

Formal and casual wear of surviving Crusader states during Renaissance (1400-1699 CE)

I am guessing you, mean like Kingdom of Jerusalem, when you say Crusader States.

Like in Italy I can see a lot of artist traveling to the Crusader States (CS) to help provide art to the area.

The military of the CS will be the Jerusalem Guards, (JG) similar to the Swiss Guards, who care for the Pope, the JG will be dresses in a distinctly Renaissance appearance, like the picture below, but in more distinct colours of black and white.
p-2362.jpg

There civilian clothes will be dignified but simpler with them standing out from merchants and servants.
Swiss_Guardsman_in_regular_duty_uniform.jpg

Merchant traders will also be in the area, so there will be much finer dresses and uniforms then in some other parts of Europe.

Unlike the rest of Europe, I doubt there will be many poor Europeans in the CS, with the lower classes being made up of native middle eastern families who are westernized.
These will be dressed in plain tunics and like the pictures below they would be cover from head to toe, as not to seem to different from the upper class.
