AH.com podcast #2 - What If : Napoleon?

The discussion is now at an end. It's only up to our intrepid editor charl to try and make some sense out of it.

:D

And we are done. A bit of technical difficulties towards the end, but it was enjoyable overall nonetheless.

I'll got to editing ASAP, and try to have it out a bit quicker this time.

My apologies for dropping out. Real-life through a curveball at me. I have the recording...I think. Whenever I try to open it the Call Graph toolbar says it is trying to open Call Graph but then nothing happens. But you said you had the recording so we should be alright on that front. Whenever you need something done, just PM me.

It was quite good to say we only had a few people in the discussion. We really need to get more people involved.

Sorry, RL was..difficult.
First, we had the play we went to around three, then we got out at around six...plus the two hours roughly trying to get a cab back, and by the time we arrived, well...
Sorry about missing it, things just got complicated.

What's the third podcast going to be about?

EDIT: If you're looking for suggestions, maybe WWI? Or the Byzantines?

I like Lightspeed Catalonian's idea of making it about alternate technology. We could also incorporate a discussion on alternate names for technology, which is a subject I've always been interested in.

I think we should have more general, thematic topics like these as well as ones focusing on a particular period of history like the two we've already had.

Perhaps, as there are a great deal more specifics than generals, do something like:

2 specific, one general, 2 specific, 1 general etc.

with the number of specifics in each block being something like 2 or 3?

I'll suggest, again, our next topic be about histories greatest generals. We could try to come to a consensus on the top 10 or, if that's too easy, the top 50.

Maybe in the future, but that might turn off some people who aren't into the military side of things. Besides, while it's fun to discuss generals, past experience suggests that it invariably degenerates into an argument between people with differing views on one, usually in the American Civil War or WW2.

This is true. I would worry that alternate technology might be a bit too obscure but it would certainly be a fun discussion (fun, mostly likely, meaning a degeneration into Steampunk).

May I suggest Empire. The general concept may make for interesting discussion.

Golly, this is like "In Our Time" isn't it?

:D

I haven't decided on a date or a topic for the next podcast. The first Saturday next month is the 4th, so that'll probably be it.

As for the topic I agree with Thande that something a bit more general and inclusive would be nice. Maybe something on the topic of alternate politics (ideologies, demagogues, leaders, parties and movements and such)?

I think that would be a good idea for a topic, though obviously it has the potential to get a bit pent-up if it ventures too close to OTL.

Well we'll have to make it clear to everyone that it's a politically neutral discussion dealing in hypotheticals.

Still, if things go really tits-up I can always kick the offending party from the conference call.
