AH.com podcast#1 - What If : Nazis

Ok, status update: I haven't done anything.

Sorry about that. I got dragged into court duty. I won't be able to make any serious progress until tomorrow afternoon.

Figures that the one time I don't actually get any free time is the time I really would need it.

Perfectly understandable, don't worry on our behalf. At least the dog didn't eat it ;)

Gah! Just found this thread. Delightful! If I may I propose that the next topic be on the ACW (given that it is also the most common AH topic (certainly in the USA), or at least is seen as such).

Maybe we could move on something less cliche this time but keeping a topic based on one people/ideology rather than a precise period or state. Something like "Vikings", "Romans", "Tories" (God have pity of us all).

I agree with LSCatilina, maybe we can alternate between general/"cliché" topics and more unusual and interesting stuff. I would like it if we could cover more than one topic per podcast, maybe one big one and one smaller one in between as an intermission?

Also the topic needn't be a people or ideology, it could be another AH-related topic (I think someone suggested maps/flags, but I know not every AH.commer is into that).

Not every AH.commer is into pretty much anything except, well, AH.

However, I agree that maps and flags wouldn't work that well, since they're visual. However, we could do something like national anthems - those are hard to convey over the board...

It's an area that's a bit neglected in AH, though, so there wouldn't be that much to talk about.

Actually, that would itself make a good topic - "Neglected areas in AH".

The anthems recquire a good work, a recording and dn't fit with a free talk during 2 hours. Maybe making with it a another show in the podcast, but not with this one.

For a quite unusual second PODcast, i will see well a talk on technology.
They're few TL with technologies changes, or even desription and the Steam-Byzzies of IE seems to be one of the few exceptions.
Why not talk about it?

That sounds like a good idea, and we can also talk about AH different names for technologies, which I've always found an interesting topic.

I listen to many podcasts on my iPod and my favorite is Realtime with Bill Maher which also comes on HBO, and the show is broken up into sections.
The first one is a bit of stand-up comedy and a look over the past events of the week in politics and the world, the second is the introduction of a guest speaker, a senator or author, then the panel discussion and debate with a panel of four, then the introduction of the special guest, such as a senator or a movie star and more discussion, then finally new rules.

I was thinking about the AH Podcasts and the different sectione it could have:
1. Timeline Of The Month-
• Timeline of the month - make a poll to vote on the most exceptional TL on the board, then plug the author, the summary of the TL and where you can find it on the board.
• Honorable mentions - noteworthy TL's on the board.
• Classics - a famous TL on the board such as Dr. What's Snakeoil or MacCauley's Soviet Invasion of Iran.

World News and developments-
Basically a overview of the ongoings in the world, in the US and abroad in the past month.

AH News -
The developments around the board, bannings and kickings, member of the month, rookie poster of the month (someone with a post count of 500 or lower).

Questions/suggestions from the board -
Ever run out of ideas to talk about? Just ask the board!
See the boards reaction to the discussions and debates, toward the podcast in general and many more things. Questions from the board pertaining to that months topics could be brought up during the discussion if you run out of stuff to talk about.

That's just my two cents, when a topic I really like comes along I will try to join in, but I'm only 15 and although I know a considerable amount on politics I don't know as much as you guys. I have a decent microphone on my iPod and my iPod Skype app is fairly good.

Okay, for the third PODcast, whatever we are doing for the second (i still would like "Technology"), i think we must do something about historical malconception. When i see some threads about ancient ME (especially Hebrews) and Middle-Ages, i think it's an emergency.

AH.com podcast # 1 What If: Nazis?

It's done. Please have a listen and tell me if it's ok. The audio quality kind of varies a bit towards the end I think, but it should be (mostly) comprehensible. It's more or less exactly 2 hours long, give or take a second or two. The file size is 109 MB.

Ok, I have tried to download it twice now, each time without success. During the download, the download window says "Unknown time remaining", and then the download ends after only 4.1 mbs are complete. Is anyone else having this trouble?

Charl, would you mind uploading the file to another host? I would really like to listen the complete recording. On an unrelated note, Charl, you have quite a posh voice. Have you ever considered a career in radio?;)

I have actually been on radio a couple of times. ;)

Anyway, yes, I could. But I would need the name of a host that will allow me to upload a 109 MB mp3 file.

I've managed to download it. Not started listening yet, but I've tested it and can open and run the file (at least the first few seconds).

I've not been on the radio myself, but I have had an e-mail to Current Arcaeology published.

How about http://www.mediafire.com/?
It appears that their free service has a 200mb limit, and you don't have to sign up to host. I didn't see anything about specifically banning .mp3, either.

Also, tell me about your radio experience, please. This is actually something in which I am very interested. I think my dream job would be a narrator for historical documentaries :D
