AH Challenge: Vladislaus II of Opole, King of Poland

I've never understood why Vladislaus II of Opole, as a male line Piast and a (female line) descendant of Vladislaus I the Elbow-High wasn't logical choice to ascend to the Polish throne either after the death of Casimir III or that of Louis I of Hungary, for whom he was essentially a viceroy. With a POD during or after the reign of Casimir III, make him end up King of Poland.

So, what could change, and what made the ruler of Lithuania preferable?
Jogaila offered end of Lithuanian raids, that devasted Eastern Poland and caused fertile Lublin Uppland to be almost uninhabitated wasteland, alliance against Teutonic Order and possibility of further Polish expansion in the East.

You answered the second part of the question. But from your reply, why would pursuing Lithuanian interests be better than Hungarian?

Kingdom of Hungary back then was stronger than Poland, during both periods of Polish-Hungarian personal unions (1370-1382 and 1440-1444) King resided in Buda while Poland was ruled by regents and magnate councils. Lithuania OTOH was not stronger, so situation of Poland in union with Lithuania was reverse of situation during unions with Hungary.

That makes more sense. Thank you. Who would have been king had Jogailla chosen Orthodoxy or rejected the crown?
