AH Challenge: US Election where all the major candidates have the same first name

Your challenge is any time in the modern era to have an election where both the presidential and vice presidential nominees of both parties all have the same first name.

Bonus points if you can inflict this on minor parties too.

1972 election between President George Romney (R-MI)/Vice President George Bush (R-TX) and George McGovern (D-SD)/George Miller (D-CA)?

That's a good one.

1996 with President Pat Schroeder (D-CO)/ Vice President Patrick "Pat" J. Kennedy (D-MA) against Pat Buchanan (R-DC)/Pat Robertson (R-VA).

2004 where President John McCain(R-AZ)/Vice President John Engler (R-MI) run against John Kerry (D-MA)/John Edwards (D-NC).

Two I thought of.

How about six Dicks?

1996: Dick Gephardt (D-MO) / Dick Durbin (D-IL) vs Dick Lugar (R-ID) / Dick Cheney (R-WY) vs Dick Lamm (Ref-CO) / Dick Shelby (Ref-AL)

Best one yet! Though I think the '04 one with McCain/Engler against Kerry/Edwards is a bit more realistic.

2004:

D - John Kerry, John Edwards
R - John McCain, John Ellis ("Jeb") Bush

PoD: Clinton resigned in 1998 when his misbehavior was exposed; Gore finished Clinton's term and was re-elected in 2000. Gore could not seek a second full term in 2004, having served over six years.

Other possibilities:
1916 - two Charles (Hughes, Fairbanks)
1908 - two Williams (Taft, Bryan)
1900 - two Williams (McKinley, Bryan)
1896 - two Williams (McKinley, Bryan)
1856 - two Johns (Fremont, Breckinridge)

2012: Ron Paul (R-TX)/Ron Johnson (R-WI) vs Ron Wyden (D-OR)/Ron Musgrove (D-MS)

Obama decides not to run for re-election because something makes the economy explode.

1956 election. Possible POD is that Dewey wins in '48 and '52. Richard B. Russell Jr. runs on a third party campaign after Daley wins the Democratic nomination.

Richard J. Daley (IL)/Richard M. Russell (MA)
Richard M. Nixon (CA)/Richard P. Gale (MN)
Richard B. Russell Jr. (GA)/
Richard W. Leche (LA)

I know a staffer of Durbin's, and apparently the Senator himself is a pretty nice guy.

How'd you meet them?

My mother is friends with Daniel Patrick Moynihan's former chief of staff, who's a lot leftier than you'd expect given DPM's proto-New-Democrat reputation.

I haven't actually met the Senator, but my mom knows the staffer, who I've met several times.

Yes, and then the voters will KNOW theyre all a bunch of Dicks, .....

I know a staffer of Durbin's, and apparently the Senator himself is a pretty nice guy.

But that works for Gephardt, Cheney, Lamm, and Shelby.

Ummm... i was TRYING to make a joke based on the general perception of politicians, and the first names these guys have. I was not making personal attacks on any of them in particular, and i am sorry if i was seen to be maligning an honourable man. I also apologize for not including a smiley to make my intent clearer.

No, I was just joking by taking an obvious joke seriously. I probably should have used a smiley.
