I am new to this forum, and very much a novice in AH, so please let me know if this challenge is too implausible.
Is there a way to unite the Russian and British Empires of the early 20th century (pre-1917)? The POD would presumably be before WWI OTL but after the 1905 revolution, and require major policy changes on the part of the Tzar and the Octoberists to avoid rebellion and make a union attractive to the British. All of the baggage from the Great Game would need to be dealt with, despite the Anglo-Russian Convention of 1907 OTL. Just to reassure myself that this is not entirely outrageous: there was some, although not very serious, discussion of a marriage between Olga Romanov and Edward VIII in the early 1910's OTL.
I originally considered AngloRussia as a outcome of the Tunguska event (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tunguska_event) occurring over St. Petersburg and removing much of the 3rd Duma and the socialist party membership, but leaving Olga Nikolaevna, Stolypin, and enough reformists alive to keep the Russian state largely intact. I'm curious if there is a less theatrical way to merge and perhaps stabilize the empires.
