AH Challenge: Toussaint Louverture is made a Marshall of France

How can François-Dominique Toussaint Louverture, the most famous leader of the 1792 Haitian Revolution, become a Marshall of France (either under Napoleon or some similar ATL setup)?

*bump* I know this one seems unlikely even ATL, but give me some options here! Toussaint was recognized as governor by the Directorie while defeating every foreign army that attempt to land in Haiti. How much further of a step is Marshall?

Not going to happend being governor of a far away island is one thing becoming Marshall of France is a whole other level. Racism of the time would not accept that.

Actually, I disagree.

There were multiple Marshalls at any one time, and if Revolutionary/Napoleonic France wanted, they could have appointed T l'O "Marshall of France in charge of all military forces in the Americas" (which would have been Haiti, a couple of other islands and a handful of militia in Louisiana, perhaps. Since France couldn't project (much) power across the Atlantic, anyway, giving a glorious title to some black guy and then using racism to blame him for subsequent losses, seems entirely plausible, IMO.

It would, of course, have been a meaningless title, and one they would revoke if he actually ended up surviving:)

NB: this is a darn low probability scenario, but not, IMO, ASB. T l'O being a Marshall in Europe probably is ASB.
