AH challenge: Taiwanese Corsica...

...or is it Corsican Taiwan? Anyway, you get the idea: just as the Chinese Nationalist regime has survived to this day on Taiwan, find a POD obviously no later than 1944 that leads to the Vichy regime being evacuated to Corsica, and surviving there as a de facto independent country to the present day. Obviously, it may have evolved ideologically in the meantime, but the institutions must be officially Petainist.
For fun's sake, you may speculate on a variation: the evacuation of the Vichy regime to Madagascar.

That is not nearly hard enough! Lets find a POD not earlier than say 1944 that ends up with the die hard old regimists of the ROC decamping to Corsica and being supported in perpetuity against both the French and the Chinese by the Americans. Bonus points if you can also offer a peaceful solution between now and 2010 whereby Corsica is adsorbed into China proper on terms agreeable to both the Americans and the French. Super bonus points if you explain how Malta, the Balaerics and Sardinia deal with the refugee problem generated by ethnic Corsican boat people when they are rejected by the Italians, Spaniards and French.

Napoleon was Corsican.
Napoleon said when China wakes the world will tremble.
This was plainly a prediction for his homeland rather than a geo-political prophecy.

In either case (Corsica or Madagascar), it would almost certainly require a timeline in which Germany wither won WW2 or the war was somehow ended by an armistice retaining Nazi Germany in place. In an "allies win" situation, there is no way the allies French would allow any survival of the Petain regime.

Well, maybe a scenario in which the Petain regime independently re-enters the war against Germany and contributes significantly to the allied victory. Then, maybe there would have to be a split between the Frances.

What about other variations on this idea? How about if during the American War the British somehow lose Canada to the French or the rebels, but we get a loyalist state hanging on in Long Island and/or the Maritimes?

Have crosisan fighters take over their island in 1940, capture some french ships and call for british assistance. Brits get a base in exchange for recognising their independence.

That won't have the same effect though.

Easy. Britain is overrun by Nazis, but the USSR smashes the Third Reich. The Vichy regime flees from Stalin's armies to Corsica.
