The ties between the Orthodox Christian Slav brothers Serbia and Russia can't have been better in the 19th century. The cultural ties may be huge, but if you taught pupils only about history from 1920 to 1990, you wouldn't imagine that. Yugoslavia had split from the USSR under Tito - though he wasn't a Serb and Socialist YU was no Serb-wank as the Kingdom before. It may seem like a miracle that these good ties remained after so many decades of "godless" Communism - and they did not become bloody enemies like Poles and Russians are.

So what would it need to sever the special friendship between Serbs and Russians?
