AH challenge: Russia America special relation

This is an AH challenge. During the 1800s, America and Russia had very good relations. We assisted each other in many ways, and were also quite similar. We had the West, they had Siberia. We were both European in culture, but were seen by Europe as being a bunch of back wood rednecks. We had a good relationship. But, sadly, it slowly fell apart.

The challenge is as follows. With a POD of 1840, Russia and the US must have a current day long lasting special relationship similar to the one the US and the UK have now. There are a few rules though.

1. If there is a civil war, the north must win.
2. By the late 1900s, both the US and Russia must be significant world powers.
3. There must be at least one world war.

Good luck!

Hmm. I think what this requires is a UK-US misunderstanding. UK fights another war with the US, possibly over the Civil War, in the 1800s. US wins or makes it a draw if it's a civil war, or loses if it's not. Perhaps France falls out with Britain (or, rather, never quite "falls in") because UK goes with Germany. France and Russia make an arrangement over Germany, and USA naturally joins in against UK. Russia and USA are thus friendly and world powers.
WW1 features a UK-G-AH CP defeat by the F-R-USA Entente. Perhaps WW2 sees another round, fascist or not, with Japan joining in against the Entente. China, France, UK and Germany however have bad relations with Russo-Americans post-war. No ideology needed though one can stir the pot by making Western Europe Red.
