AH Challenge: Rome of the East

I was thinking of Rome and i wondered: WI the Chinese overthrew their emperor in and proclaimed a rome-esque republic?

Challenge:

POD must be before AD 1793 and After AD 1644.

No ASBs.

No Peasants revolt.

Uhm, I would think that pretty difficult with such a late - for China - POD. One would have to completely work over their society. Very few families are run similar to republics, at least in the Far East.

Here's an attempt. In 1757, on a whim, some chinese Explorers head west to discover what is out there. They make their way through Turkey etc. selling silk.

Eventually, they make their way to the libraries in Rome and read about Ancient Rome.

Assuming they are still alive, they return to China with this information and it becomes popular.

Ove 10 years, this republican idea kicks in as the Nobles think they shouldnt be run by the Manchus. By 1789 they overthrow the Qing Dynasty and declare The Chinese Republic.

No need to go through such trouble. The Jesuits were at the Imperial court since 1601, they could have told the Chinese all they wanted to know about Roman history.

ok, in 1737 a Chinese oprhan is found by some Jesuits and is taken into their care.

In history, he learns about the Roman Republic.

After 2 decades, he becomes a Jesuit priest.

He then discusses the idea in public of a Republic in China.

This catches on and by 1791, the Qing are overthrown and China becomes a republic in the style of Rome with a few chinese tweaks. For Example the senate is called the Council of Mandarins which represent a Province in China.

The Council's first act is a modernisation programme
