AH Challenge: Roehm in charge of Germany

With a POD at any point up to January 30, 1933, make Ernst Roehm the leader of Germany (Chancellor, President, Fuhrer, whatever). Bonus points if he is fairly elected.

Also, what would his government be like?

1. well, somehow make the SA strong enough to take on the conventional military, the have Hitler kick the bucket is the only way that springs to mind.

Or, have a POD sometime in the far past, butterflies ensure that someone names "Ernest Rohm" rises to lead a state called "Germany"

2. not really seeing this, with someone as radical as him at the head, the Nazi's would pretty much need an absolute majority in the reichstag, and I have no idea how to make that happen.

3. well, a more populist and social brutal police state, If he were in a position of absolute power, then the army and the other area's of government that remained under the control of the conservative establish meant OTL would probably end up purged. I forget if what his position was re: Eastern Europe, but if it was different then Hitler's, he might be satisfied with "just" pre WW1 territories, Austria and the Sudetenland

I'm not sure if it was here, but I remember reading a timeline a while back that involved Hitler drowning as an infant. Butterflies start to kick in post-war. Rohm rises to power basically riding the same sort of sentiments that Hitler followed, but is less capable as a leader. Confrontation around 1935 ends with Germany being trounced by Poland, France, and the UK. winds up being partitioned into 3, 4 states, lots of butterflies down the road. Not the most plausible timeline, but a fun read.

The Drowned Baby TL was the first major piece of alternate history I actually read.

It's pretty good, even playful at times, but it sort of evolves into a massive Pole-wank after a while. Despite that, though, it is, IMO, one of the classics of non-published alternate history.

That being said, it's almost impossible to find in its entirety nowadays. Here's the closest I can come: http://johnnypez9.blogspot.com/2009/07/drowned-baby-timeline.html

I actually managed to track it down through an alternate history group of Facebook. Thanks for putting me on to that, though, it'll provide some entertainment for the next couple days.
