The POD for this is officially in 1898, but since the majority of the WIs happen in the 20th century here we are.

In this TL, Spain still loses the Spanish-American War, but loses even more face to the Americans than they did IOTL. These events are deeply traumatic for the Spaniards, and the cultural resurgence of Generación del 98 does not happen. Simply put, Spain is left listless, with a large segment of disaffected and dissenting citizens, a crumbling economy, sitting at the twilight of its empire.

From this point on, chart a path for Spain and Portugal that would lead them into a reactionary, pro-monarchist, paranoid government (quadruple points for a Carlist government). The Nationalist movement of the Spanish Civil War does not count if it follows the same path as it did in OTL, and Portugal's Estado Novo perhaps needs to chart an even more reactionary path.

What I am looking for is an Iberia that "goes dark," or turns into something like an early North Korea, but far right-wing and monarchist instead of Communist. I'm also interested in an interpretation of what effect such a situation in Spain and Portugal would have on WWI, WWII, and the Cold War.
