AH Challenge: Nationalist, imperialist, totalitarian, homogenous Western Power

In the words of its founder, the Legion is a nationalist, imperialist, totalitarian, homogenous culture that absorbs everyone into itself, obliterating their previous identity.

In the modern era, is it possible for a homogenous, totalitarian society to exist?

The challenge does not have to include the imperialistic aspects as it becomes less likely an imperialistic nation will survive as history progresses. I'd prefer a western power, but it doesn't really have to be.

The nation must use modern technology (radios, televisions, cctv everywhere) for either watching it's citizens, or moulding them.

Edit: Perhaps this should be in future history, to clarify I was looking for one which exists at least when computers are beginning to play a major role in the world (not neccesarily that country)

It is just about plausable for Salazars Estado Novo Portugal (which in OTL lasted until 1974) to survive to the present day. Which fits your description to a T.

American Revolution fails but French Revolution still happens, triggering revolts in America before the populace can be reconstructed. This results in harsher measures which results in blazing the spirit of revolution far hotter than it was in the first Revolution. International exile and man of mystery Thomas Paine's writings inspire mutual French-style revolution in British and Spanish America, while commander Hoche leads the Orleanist French armies in defense against the British-backed Bourbon heir.

In this scenario, you see, a muted initial American Revolution leads to the French being the moderates like the OTL US, while the not-quite-US ends up being more like the OTL French Republic.

The revolutionary republics declared in alt-Canada, the alt-US, and alt-Mexico stick; while Spain and Britain work together to hold on to South America.

The international character and Jacobin type character as filtered through the works of more bitter and radical Thomas Paine causes the revolutionaries in British America and New Spain to merge together into a single great nation for the sake of survival in a very hostile world. This begins with the fact that Orleanist France needs both of them to help secure the Louisiana Territory, which is where the merging of the similarly bloody and purity-minded revolutionary republics begins.

What happened to Jacobin France happens here, especially with a monarchy-of-the-people as their French benefactor, so this turns into a North American Empire scenario.

Because of the early convergence and the revolutionary fondness of throwing out everything associated with the ancien regime, cultural differences fade and a single homogenous imperial culture develops not from conquest of these core territories (it's not conquered Mexico/Canada after all) but instead from the fact that they all share the same revolution.

Winding up like something of a Napoleonic Soviet Union in the Americas?

Edit: After 1900, gah

Here's my go:

A WWI that leads to a peace by exhaustion due to a lack of American intervention could give rise to a *fascist regime in Britain that goes very isolationist and imperialist. Decolonization is more violent than OTL, and the violent loss of the colonies hurts Britain badly. They turn even more inward and anti-immigrant. By the 21st century, they are still neutral, very nationalistic, and fairly racist. Basic freedoms, like speech, press, assembly, etc., are restricted.

Somewhat ASB, I know.
