AH Challenge: Multi-Party Candidate

Your challenge, if you choose to accept it, is to have a presidential candidate in any election year between 1900 and 2008 nominated by both the Democratic and Republican parties in the same year. Bonus points if both parties nominate the same running mate.;)

Ah, less cool than I had thought the premise was.

It's actually somewhat easy - Eisenhower was offered the nominations of both parties in 1952. Have him accept both instead of just the Republicans.

A more interesting question: what if ballot fusion isn't repealed in all but eight states in the late 19th century? How does politics shift when minor parties all of the sudden can make the difference between victory and defeat, and presidential and Congressional candidates routinely run on multiple designations?
