What would the results have been if Rome had been unable to defeat Mithradates VI during the numerous Mithradatic wars?

this is before Brutus relies on the navies of Pontus and Cappadocia to help him in one of the wars of Rome, right?

if so, then imagine those navies turned against Rome and Roman interests.

I'd have to check, I know that he lived from 132-63 BCE and fought against the armies of generals such as Sulla and Pompey the Great.

The hard work in these wars was done by Lucius Licinius Lucullus.

Maybe he's relieved from command earlier? He was as a good general but appears to have been a less accomplished politician.

Rome still needs to be distracted however. The reason Mithrades was so succesful was the concurrent revolt by Sertorius in Hispania. Assuming Sertorius is more succesful, Mithrades might perform better.

This means Pompey's reputation does not rise to such stellar (and somewhat overrated) hights.

Alas for Pontus were its fortunes dependend on the accumen of the reigning monarch, while the cutthrout politics of the Roman Republic assured that in general the most competent people rose to the top. Combined with the superior resources Rome could amass, this means Pontus might very well last the reign of Mithrades VI, but his successor would not be so lucky.

So you don't think he could have strengthened his position enough to be a match for the Romans? I would have thought that the Civil War might have given him chance to prepare.
