AH Challenge: May 1968, Protests in France develops into revolution

The challenge is to have the French protests in May 1968 continue long enough to cause the government to literally collapse. Give a summary of French history until present day.

For an extra challenge have a successful communist takeover take place and rule for at least ten years.

I say this with great sorrow and regret, but it is frankly impossible. May 1968 signalled the beginning of a resurgence of class struggle in western Europe, and neither the tradition of struggle, nor the program of action, nor the material preparation was present in any adequate degree.

I suppose the PCF and/or the PS (is it the PS at that time?) could be allowed a greater share in the government than IOTL as an appeasement measure, but that's hardly the same thing and unlikely in any case.

Communism is rather difficult ( the PC was against the movement, until it had already taken off, IIRC ).

Anarchist or Trotskist-Maoist is more posible, I think.:D

But I don't think a revolution based on such will work in 60s France ( doesn't mean it cannot make a try )

You're right that the PCF wanted nothing to do with the movement. In fact they didn't bother supporting it even once it had "taken off", and did everything they could (not much) to arrest or retard it.

What if the CP supported it then, dragging the leading unions with it? The movement did have the support of both the workers and the students, and eith the major working-class organizations following their constituency, would it really be impossible for a council movement to get started?
