AH Challenge: Mark Antony Victorious

As I was reading Plutarch's Life of Antony for an exam on Thursday, I got to thinking. What if Antony had defeated Octavian? What would the results have been if he hadn't waited a year and taken advantage of Octavian's lack of preparedness in the summer of 32? Would he and Cleopatra have tried to create a Roman Empire in the East, leaving Octavian with the west, or would he have taken over the whole of the Roman Empire?

What would the lasting results have been?

if he doesn't try to gain control of Rome, he might as well declare himself Emperor of Palmyra...because his odds of being Roman Emperor are going downhill.

partly (mostly?) this is Cleopatra's fault -- so long as she's around, Octavian's partisans can slander Antony for weeks on end, saying he's taking orders from a foreign woman etc.

if he does win it wont be the roman empire thats for sure

Anthony had no real ability to organize things aside from debauchery unless he had a tight leash on him and he did not have a tight leash on him at this time.

He seemed to be quite capable as a military commander. I do think that the presence of Cleopatra created problems, but what if she had been convinced to stay in Egypt? What if instead of trying to defeat Octavian at sea, he instead fought him on land?
