AH Challenge: Make the 1970 Hard Hat Riots as terrible as possible.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hard_Hat_Riot

Make this riot, in NYC as bloody and painful as possible.

The Hard Hat Riot was when Union Workers assaulted college anti war protesters, this riot lead to the downfall of Mayor John Lindsay. But it only lasted 2 hours, with only about 70 injuries, and 6 arrested.

Bonus points if you can expand it outside NYC.

well, there was alot of other pro-war sentiment around as well from amongst construction workers & other conservative blue-collar groups- WI, in response to the anti-war protests, they staged as many & as violent counter-protests arising from this Hard Hat riot in 1970, with similar incidents then occurring in other major cities ? WI such a conservative riot had occurred earlier, too ?

Here's an idea:

What if, instead of just criticizing the Police for brutality, Mayor Lindsay (R-NY) openly supports the protesters, leading a mob of Hells Angels, Union Workers, and off duty cops to run rampant throughout NYC. IT gets so bad, Lindsay has to leave NYC after concerns for his safety.

There are student protests in other cities (protesting the protest of a protest:confused:) such as Boston, Chicago, and LA. Pro War protesters give them the same fate.

Hell's Angels

How would the Hell's Angels be involved? They weren't from New York City. Maybe if it took place in San Francisco, and they heard about what was going on via the radio, they may have rode over and helped out.

If the mayor led a mob of workers, Hells Angels ect, he'd be arrested by the NYPD.

Sorry, i meant to say that the mob was rallied against the mayor.

and about the Hells Angels, if there were reports about hundreds of antiwar protestors being beat up in the Northeast, the Hells Angels will move pronto to NYC IMO.

But seriously, nobody has any ideas to corrupt this riot?

Yeah, this is almost ASB. It's based on the common misconception that antiwar protesters were all hippie kids from rich families and that "real 'Merican Joes" supported the war.

In fact antiwar sentiment was highest among the working class, and lowest among the well to do. Look up one of the last chapter's in James Loewen's Lies My Teacher Told Me.

This single instance of attacks was an anomaly. And by many accounts, it was staged, directed by mysterious men in business suits.

Most of the violence of the period during demontrations came from either cops (1968 Dem Convention) or Nat'l Guard (Kent State). If you want to imagine it worse, just have Nixon order it to be worse. But don't imagine it to be some kind of actual spontaneous effort of "real 'Mericans".
