AH Challenge: Make Bush into a Popular President

I consider some rights we have today too generous compared to the damage terrorists can do, especially here in Sweden (for example, the counter-espionage must actually tell terrorist that they are going to have their phone tapped before they do it!).
That must be why Sweden has such a problem with terrorism.

It's incredible, you seem intent on embodying every last cliché of the Bible-toting Republican neocon, and you're not even a US citizen. You remind me of the characters of "Hate" by Matthieu Kassovitz, who fancied themselves ghetto boys despite living in a suburb of Paris rather than in South Central LA

And they still won't let me vote in the US elections...

I'm every bit the Swede, a nationalist Swede, even, as you'd know (with some Lapp heritage). I do admire a lot of things in the US, though.

I have a bad feeling about this

famous (and overused) line from Star Wars.

First, my bias:

While in a chat room on Election Night (2000) , I asked if "The Shrub" won. Why I wrote that, I had no idea! Nor did I have any knowledge (at the time) of the man, except that he was Bush Sr's son. Something about GWB must of set off an instinctive reaction deep inside me.

Over the years. my dislike for him grew into pure hate. These days, I'm trying to work past the hate by just thinking of him as an incompetent man in over his head. I admit, I'm not succeeding very well at it.

Let's see if I can put aside my bias and try to make Bush more popular:
(Although,I doubt he would have got my vote, even if I was American)

Days after 9/11: As with most of the world, America had my sympathetic support. I'll give Bush a pass on that classroom bit; heck I don't think I would have reacted any better.

Patriot Act: No need for it. Just tighten and enforce existing laws.

Invasion of Afghanistan and the elimination of the Taliban: Good job! The hard part would be rebuilding the country.

Invasion of Iraq: A wasteful distraction, when the first war isn't done yet. Without it, Osama Bin Laden might have been captured and/or killed.

Katrina: What a mess! in every sense of the word. Can't do anything about a Cat. 4-5 hurricane, but the aftermath would have been better if all levels of government acted competently.

The Economy: Like Mother Nature, governments can't really do much, except maybe help people survive the mood swings.

Blah. I don't think I'm helping much, even if I'm trying.

It was actually a brilliant reaction. There wasn't too much that he could do at that point, so it allowed him to show calmness.

*Nods in agreement*Think I was mis-remembering what the media was criticizing Bush for. I sort of remembered him talking to one of his aides to get conformation, then went back to reading a book to the class.
My reaction would have been something like stunned disbelief. Hopefully, better the blind panic; considering the youngsters there.

Your challenge is to, with a POD no earlier than the start of Bush's second term (technically January 20, 2005, but a little bit after the 2004 elections is fine), have President Bush be popular at this current point in time, with an approval rating at least in the 50 percent range.

Also, it should be noted that you can, if you want to, change the 2008 elections accordingly.
Two Words, Terri Schiavo ...

In a Situation that Tainted ALL who Took Part; Any Governmental Involvement, No Matter how Benevolent in Intention, Would have been Interpreted by The Public as a Shameless Intrusion upon The Family's Grief ...

In Fact, If they hadn't been Catholic, her Husband could have Simply Divorced her and Allowed her Parents to Continue their Ultimately Futile Vigil in Peace!

No problem. I don't like Bush anymore than you do. I just thought it'd be an interesting idea.

Yeah, we just have to remember he is human like the rest of us. We all make mistakes. Its how we deal with them that makes us successful or not.

Thankfully, my mistakes are on a more local and personal level; and don't seriously harm anyone else, as far as I know. Unfortunately, I keep making the same ones; plus, adding new ones. (Some which are unexpected)
