AH Challenge: Korean Wave reaches North America

Your challenge is to get the Korean Wave to penetrate the U.S. and Canada to the extent that it has in Greater China, Japan, and Southeast Asia. It has to some extent: several Korean actors and pop stars have had key roles in Hollywood movies, and a few hip-hop artists have done recordings with K-pop and K-rap artisits. A very separate underground Korean rap scene has been popular in Korean-American communities for a long time, but it really has nothing to do with the Korean wave, though some of its influence has been transported back to Korea.

However, for the purposes of this challenge, you should have Korean soaps and comedies on prime-time (though on cable is ok - network TV in the U.S. is probably ASB), Korean movies with wide release, and albums and songs by Korean artists routinely cracking the top 50 or top 100.

Aim for a POD after 1980, but bonus points if the POD is after 2000.

Edit: before anyone complains, this is in pre-1900 because a PoD before 1900 is acceptable, though frowned upon. ;)

Two words
K-Pop
no need for a POD
:D
Somehow girls nowadays think 13 posh guys dancing and singing in autotune is cool
Lo! The future is ahead of us! A dark one it seems

Yeah, for this to happen to everyone is to wait IMO. It's just happened to my town now because of demographics.

More globalization

The average American isn't going to accept non-white culture as mainstream without a lot of that
Right, which explains why tacos, burritos, Chinese food, and sushi are massively popular in the United States right now, and that salsa has passed ketchup as the number one condiment for about two decades.
