AH challenge- keep polearms more prevalent in warfare after Napoleonic Wars

OK, this thread is similar to the 1 I posted a couple yrs back on retaining swords as weapons in modern warfare- how then could polearms have contd to be retained as actual combat weapons after the Napoleonic Wars (when colour sgts used pikes, halberds to defend the regimental colours), say into the 20th C ?

Uhh...

Well, you have to put a complete stop on the advancement of gun technology, for a start...

Really, even in the Napoleonic Wars the polearm was a ceremonial thing. It was strategically useless except in big melees when the defenders of the regimental colours wanted to look heroic. If you want to really keep polearms you probably want an earlier POD...and you probably still want to find a way to put a total freeze on gun technology.

in a way a Bayonet on the rifle is a type of polearm.

but for the halberd and Naginata to remain mainstream, you'ld need to delay/prevent firearm development, or limit it.

The problem is that delaying the development of firearms completely precludes the Napoleonic wars ( if only because Revolutionary armies depended on being able to quickly field conscripts proficient with efficient weapons ) and likely the consolidation of modern-form states ( as the cost of early cannons was a big reason local lords couldn't stand against king's armies )
