Just always wanted to know the plausibility. I had the Dutch winning the Anglo-Dutch War. Any other ideas

That's not actually too implausible. Japan was very backwards for a while, at the same time that the Dutch had influence and holdings in Eastern Asia, such as Taiwan.

The dutch don't even have to beat england for this one, it could also be a result of a desperate move to strengthen their position in Asia if they're beaten by the english. The dutch were the only westerners who could trade with japan and they might have feared this would end, Japan was backwater palce at the time, with a loose feudal system. A organized, weel prepared dutch campaign along with alliances with local daimyos could have overthrown the shogun and created a dutch protectorate.

The Dutch even had a trading colony in Japan, on the island of Dejima.

But if you really want to increase Dutch influence in Japan, then preventing the annexation of the Netherlands by France under Napoleon will help a lot more than just making the Dutch defeat the British.

Well, that can be butterflied so :p Especially as the Dutch-British Wars had much to do with the (un)popularity of the stadholders, which in turn had much to do of course with the establishment of the Batavian Republic...
