AH challenge: Israel not in Palestine.

now there were many plans for a Jewish homeland that was not in Palestine (ie British Uganda Program, Madagascar Plan, Jewish Autonomous Oblast, Fugu Plan and so on ) which of those plans (or what ever you think of) is the most likely to have happen and what would it look like?

that is the your chalenge should you choose to take it.
(the weirder the better.)

Not likely but:

As punishment for the Holocaust, the Allies create a Yiddish state out of East Prussia, with its capital as New Jerusalem (Koenigsberg)...

Dead on. One of the smarter things Stalin could have done is set up a YidishFolksRepublik in East Prussia (with appropriately sized Russian base) and invited all the DPs there).

If it isn't going to be a free country then no one will arrive.

If it is then Stalin doesn't gain much by it

And if it miraculously does gain attraction then it also eases pressure on the British Empire in the Middle East, which certainly doesn't help Stalin.

Sadly, I think the most likely alternative 'Israel' is the Madagascar Plan as the Nazis had serious plans to implement it at one point, all you need to make it happen is a quick win for the 'Nazis in WW2. It wouldn't really be Israel though, just a giant concentration camp.:(

Which would be instantaneously liberated. How could this work with Allied naval superiority?

You're quite right about the Allied naval superiority making the plan impossible, that (along, finally, with the Battle of Madagascar) was why the plan was abandoned in OTL.

That's why I said the Nazis would have to win WW2 quickly for it to happen, say something like the British sue for peace in 1940, and the USA never gets involved in the European War. Then perhaps the plan would have been implemented in 1941/42.

Maybe the 'Israel' in Madagascar would later be liberated by the USA, maybe there would be a successful revolt even. It would seem far from being a certainty though.

Jewish Ethiopia can be promising TL, given big Falasha community there and Ethiopean emperors claiming blood relationship with King David, but POD would likely be pre-1900. Would Turks actively oppose 1st Aliyah, messianic longings of the 1st generation of Zionists can be re-directed to Ethiopia. This is pretty shitty corner of Earth, as far as natural resources are concerned, but better than Israel.

CanadianGoose, when it comes to natural resources ANYWHERE is better than Israel.

That's proof of the divine compact between God and the Jews, if God didn't assign them that spot then on what possible basis would any sane person consider that of all places to be the so-sacred patrimony of a nation?:p

Long ago I would certainly have concluded that the ancient lost holy land was actually around Marseilles but...

Disagree. Certainly few would come from the Americas, but Europe and Russia would supply a fair number of settlers.

"Free" or "Unfree" are very relative concepts to people who have just had their relatives made into soap. In the UK many Jewish people were sympathetic to Communism, and even prominent in the Party. With no Israel in Palestine, left leaning Jews might migrate from Arab countries, though the pogroms that accompanied the Arab Israeli conflict would be unlikely to occur. With no Israel, a Yiddish Socialist Prussian Republic would be an attractive proposition to many.

Now what about the results of this for the US? Antisemitism was not unknown in the USA, and suddenly the association between Judaism and Communism might have given a very different twist to the McCarthy witch trials...

"Are you or have you ever been a member of the KGB Mr Marx?"

"I'd never join a secret police force that would have me as a member."

"You are in contempt Mr Marx."

"That's funny, I thought I was in Washington..."

"Take the pri... witness away."

Could have been worse - the Promised Land might have been in Western Sahara....

Inevitably though, wherever an Israel would be put, people would still voice opinions against it in some way or another.
