AH Challenge: Have the Semple tank see combat.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Semple_tank

The Bob Semple tank was designed in New Zealand as an emergency improvised armoured fighting vehicle. It used a tractor as a base, had machine-guns as its main armament and used corrugated iron as armour. Only four of these machines were produced before the project was cancelled, and the tanks made were disassembled and had their function as tractors restored.

However, what could possibly possess the New Zealand government to actually put these things to use, let alone allow them to see combat?

Aussie Guy,

You'd have to have Japanese troops in New Zealand and most likely marching through Christchurch before those pieces of sh*t saw combat. If the IJA did drop in for a visit, I wouldn't be surprised if the machine guns mounted on them wouldn't be immediately removed to be put to better use.

No one is going to waste space aboard a freighter shipping them away from New Zealand or space on a flatcar shipping them within New Zealand.

The Semple tanks rank right up there with the equally useless and goofy anti-tank "beer bottle thrower" devised in Britain during the invasion scare of 1940.
