AH Challenge: Have the British Empire collapse violently and quickly.

I have noticed that there is a lot of British-wanks on this site, while British screws are hard to come by. A lot of times I have seen a bunch of threads that want to preserve the Empire with the British being dominant , while India is left out as although people want a prosperous India they don't want the British Empire to become an Indian Empire.

So, I think it would be something different to see a great imperial collapse after the Empire reached it's peak. Just to do something new over here.

So, the challenge is to have the British Empire completely collapse, not just slowly ,but quickly like how the Spanish Empire collapsed.

I'll throw my own two cents of how this could happen.

Say, after a world war 1 in which the central powers win or at least draw, Britain has gone into horrible debt thanks to all the American loans it can't pay. With all of the sacrificed lives from the Dominions having been in vain, Some if not all try to make a break for complete independence and transition into Republic. India and Ireland undergo violent revolution as the British can't afford to keep them down. Britain goes into a sort of great depression early, which leads to some sort of republican revolution were a totalitarian party comes to power for some 50-70 years. Think V for Vendetta. Homosexuals,Disabled/handicapped, elderly, ethnic minorities, and just about anyone that Victorian era eugenics targeted. At the end of this dark period, Britain emerges as being Russia level poor with London taking Moscow's place for a big city area that is rich, while the rest is in tatters. Like Russia, there are few remains of the imperial, or even fewer, as Buckingham palace is burned to the ground, with the remains constantly looted and sold on the Black market to off the island. The crown jewels are gone, historic monuments trashed, etc.

That's my ,admittedly bad, try but let's see what the rest of you guys can do

Perhaps gandhi suffers a stroke during ww2 which causes india to violently revolt, which serves to discredit imperialism

Britain loses WW1, and the feeling of national humiliation is enough to make them go Communist in the twenties. The royal family is captured and executed before it can escape to Canada or one of the other dominions, leaving no recognizable figurehead for any continuing Empire to unite around. To make matters worse, you could have multiple governments in exile that leads to a crisis of legitimacy within Britain's colonial possessions. Rebellions take place in India and other colonies that overthrow the British. In others, like Rhodesia, the white colonists decide to go it alone without any clear recognized leadership. The dominions start deciding to go independent, and the exiled British authorities have little to no means of stopping them.

In the man in the high castle in the alternate-alternate timeline wasn't their a Indian revolt or something that was violently suppressed by British fascists?

What if Gandhi and Nehru are killed or otherwise incapacitated and violent revolutionaries attempt a revolt against the British. The toiling peasants take up arms and various Indian soldiers mutiny

Hardline imperialists in Britain basically say f the dirty brown people and go all down fascist which leads to violent civil war and revolution coupled with strikes in the UK and the following repression. Have the British commit lots of troops and cause a tremendous loss of life and money just goes down the drain.

Bonus points if the British use chemical weapons and get completely discredited internationally. Perfidious Albion might become Bloody Albion or some such.

Have revolts in other parts of the empire that are just a violent and repression be just as much so.

Given the population of the British empire and its scale of violent revolutions starting popping off you get probably get a high body count exhausted Britain with internal crises and lots and lots of tears basically.

1. Have David Lloyd George take Britain into an unsuccessful war with Turkey during the Chanak crisis which Britain looses. This then encourages India to rebel.

2. Have Britain undergo a civil war in the years 1909-1910. This civil war is caused by the House of Lords rejecting the People's Budget and instead of in OTL, it does not resolve peacefully. In ATL, the King, egged on by the Tories and the Lords themselves, refuses. The Liberals, with support from Labour and from the Irish Nationalists, declare a British Republic while the latter force the Liberals to declare Home Rule for Ireland within that Republic. Thus you have the King, the Tories, Ulster Unionists, Aristocracy and most of the Army on one side and the Liberals, Irish Nationalists and Labour on the other side. The civil war erupts and lasts two years in which cities like London experience significant destruction. The Monarchists win but Liberal and Socialist Wales along with Nationalist Ireland hold out longer than Repulican areas elsewhere. In Ireland, Nationalist Republicans (Eioin MacNeil) replace the more moderate nationalists (John Redmond) and declare an independent Irish Republic and their fight becomes a simple fight for independence. Thus, during this war, Britain sees its larger cities and industrial areas undergo significant destruction and its economy and infrastructure is in tatters. During the War, the Kaiser grabs many of Britain's colonies in Africa, as the French do while the Kaiser encourages Indian Nationalists to declare independence. Thus by the end of the war, Britain is a dictatorship ruled by Edward Carson as Prime Minister with a clique of military generals and Tory ministers and a rump legislature without much power. The colonies have all been grabbed while Lloyd George leads the Republican government in exile in Paris.
