AH Challenge: Have A Canadian Hockey Team Win Back-To-Back Stanley Cups

As a Canadian, it gets on my nerves that I have never seen a Canadian hockey team win the Stanley Cup in my life time. The last time one did was in 1993, by the Montreal Canadiens. Your challenge, should you accept it, is to have a Canadian Hockey team win two stanley cups in a row, any time between 1993 and the present. However, it has to be the same team, so you can't have on canadian team win one year, and another team win it the next. You can pick any Canadian team you want, but you get bonus points if it's the Winnipeg Jets. :D

Any takers?

Probably the best shot at this pre-2000 is if the Quebec Nordiques don't move. They won on the year they moved to Colorado, and they have a good shot of winning again the following year.

Vancouver

Have Vancouver beating the Rangers in 1994 like they almost did. Then, you have Montreal and the Couv winning in consecutive years.

Then, have Ottawa beat New Jersey in the 2003 East Finals and beat Anaheim, and have Calgary close out the Lightning at home in Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals in 2004.

Toronto is a possibility, too. (No, don't laugh.)

That would start with Happy Harold having a spurt of common sense and getting Wayne Gretzky from Edmonton in 1988. (This was rumored and there was some evidence that Pocklington DID want to move Gretzky to a Canadian team to avoid the possible political fallout.) Assuming he also demands Marty McSorley and Mike Krushelnyski as his teammates, they also come to Toronto for 1988-89. Combined with the team that bloody near got there in 1992-93, that would make a Toronto-Montreal Stanley Cup final. (I can just imagine the insanity that would result from THAT. :D) Assuming they can keep that team together, back to back cups in 1992-93 and 1993-94 is very possible.

And if you go by OTL's competitors, the Maple Leafs would be against the Vancouver Canucks for the 1993-94 Stanley Cup. Back to back all-Canadian cup finals good enough for ya? ;)

They did meet that year OTL, but in the Western Conference Finals instead of the Stanley Cup Finals. Canucks won.:p
