AH Challenge: Greater Ethiopian Empire

After WWII Haile Selassie asked for both Eritrea and the former Italian Somaliland. He only received Eritrea as part of a federation. Have that work out somehow. You have to arrange it so that the British don't want to take over from the Italians at the same time that there is strong opposition in the UN to letting the Italians back in.

British and French Somaliland (Djibouti) are trickier. For starters, I don't think Ethiopia would want to risk adding so many minorities to the empire. Then there's the fact that France would expect to maintain some kind of presence in the Horn even with decolonization, while Britain would be far more inclined to listen to the Somalis' demand for independence than to the Ethiopians' expansionist ambitions.

Your challenge is to create a Imperial Ethiopia consisting of OTL Ethiopia, Eritrea, Djibouti and Somalia with a POD after 1900.

WWI does not break out until the late 40s, and Germany-Austria-etc. win by virtue of having a buttload of nuclear physicists which don't immigrate ATL. Ethiopia joins in at the last minute to grab French and British and Italian territory, but its fairly crappy army fails to take Kenya or the Sudan, and it has to be satisfied with Somali and Eritrean territory. The civil war of the 60's is spectacularly messy. (The "too many minorities" thing is a serious issue, but absolute monarchy, excellent a form of government as it is, does occasionally lead to somewhat short-sighted decision making.)

If the POD was 1894, it could work. The idea there would be that there is a more plentiful harvest, but it goes past Baratieri. When you have the Battle of Adwa (or its ATL analogue) Menelik has an even more crushing victory. With plentiful supplies, he is able to march on Keren, Dogali, Asmara, and ulitmately Massawa (Menelik's March to the Sea sounds like a good book). Italy rushes to peace, as they are so scared that Ethiopia somehow invading the peninsula seems plausible to some. Ethiopia is able to annex all of Eritrea, but allows the Italians to retain the port of Massawa, as he knows that if he completely strips Italy of its colony they will come back with a horrible vengance. France and Britain pull their borders back even further (after the end of the war in OTL they reduced their claims inland to appease Ethiopia, they were quite scared). Regardless, Italy stays in the Triple Alliance during WWI, partially for vengance regardless, and Ethiopia invades Italian Somalia. After the war they gain the territory (Ethiopia, again lets Italy keep Massawa). After World War Two (which went a lot like OTL), British Somaliland and Djbouti are considered impractical as nations (largely due to Ethiopian inertia) and granted to Ethiopia.

The Somali populations have been throughly Ethiopianised and Orthodoxised, and thoses formerly in British Somaliland and Djbouti are easily indoctrinated in a generated by missionary schools. Ethiopia stands as a power able to exert influence over the newly independent African nations and project its power in East Africa and southern Arabia.

Or whe go the other way
Italy wins the Ethiopian War. Combines Ethiopia. Somalia, Etruria, Into Italian Africa.
King Ethiopia flee to Paris.
During WW1 Italy remains in the CP. Britian invades, restores King Ethiopia as king of Italian Africa.
During the late 1920's Ethiopia gains British Somalia when Britain loses fight with Waddists. Ethiopia's response to the Waddist is a lot more Ruthless.
After the fall of France in WW2, Ethiopia occupies Djibouti, and fails to return it after the war.
