When the financial crisis hit, many people in Europe and especially in Germany had wet dreams about GM Europe bought off from GM as said company was in danger of becoming bankrupt. You see, Europeans in general and Germans in particular think that American cars are bullcrap, especially those from GM. Chrysler (bought up by Fiat in the meantime) has also been frowned upon while Ford has at least become an accepted car producer. People were rather surprised how fast GM came through Chapter 11 and that sale plans for GM Europe became obsolete.
At one point, I myself dreamt about GM parceled up into occupation zones like Germany after World War II, especially after Chrysler was bought by Fiat.
Of course, that was a pipedream. But how could such a scenario really happen? GM owned by foreign manufactorers?
