AH challenge: France even more politically unstable post revolution then OTL

With a POD no later then the first revolution in 1789, make, France even more of a "revolving door regime" then in OTL.

Have someone with less charisma or military competence then Napoleon take over from the Directory? I'm sure there's time for quite a few good military coups in the revolutionary period.

Well you can have a POD in 1871 with either the Commune being stronger or having a monarchist majority triumph and have a restoration of either the Legitimists or the Orleanists instead of a conservative republic which divided the least.

Napoleon joins the Royal Navy (he considered it in OTL), thus removing him from the Directory, as King Henry suggests. It would be to late for him to affect the American Revolution, though.

Napoleon as an Admiral, and later a British PM, could be interesting. A stable France was not in Britain's best interests at the time, IIRC. Mind you, he and Wellington might conquer France in this TL.
