AH Challenge: Ethiopia today

I was wondering: WI haile selassie managed to survive the oil crisis along with the Empire, with it lasting to the present day?

What would it look like?

Well, Ethiopia would not have been under Socialist control of decades and it might be a symbol of stability in Africa. It would be able to exert pressure on Somalia and might bring about more stability for the Entire Horn.

Or just conquer the damn place, was one of the territorial ambitions of the Empire of Ethiopia anyway.

Perhaps, but certainly not a power. Tons of respect, and they'd be a bit better of perhaps.

A lot of people seem to assume that Mr Makonnen was a wise and benevolent ruler. Not so (the creation of famines had a long history in Ethiopia).

Might be more stable, but would not be terribly wealthy or powerful (Eritrea could well cut loose anyway).
