With a POD no earlier than July 24, 1952, have Egypt formally annex or control Sudan.

Aaaaand....Go!

I've read in several books on the Arab-Israeli conflict that the years right after the First war there was lot of almost offers and almost deals floated around about a real peace that faded away in the mid 1950s. One that I recall reading about was the fact that alot of Arab states were angered by the fact that Israel cut the Arab World in two and if the Southernmost part of Israel would be ceded to Jordan or Egypt then Peace treaties could be signed.

Figure such an event happens and Israel hands over part of the Negev and Eilat to Egypt or Transjordan and those two nations sign peace treaties. Alot of Arab Anger and Unity starts to fade away, the Jordanians start looking towards Dynastic rivalry with the Saudis and in Egypt you see the eventual rise of Arab Nationalists who look towards Sudans Arabs as countrymen stolen by imperialism. In the early 60's you see Nasser or someone else decide to launch a push south either by Military or Diplomatic means and they win the day.

I'm afraid that that POD is before the one designated in the OP.

Well, OTL the Egyptians gave up all claims on the Sudan in order to remove Britain from the country. The British manadate for being in Sudan relied upon the claim that they were there at the behest of the Egyptians. If you could get the British out of Sudan sooner you could have the Egyptians avoid having to renounce their claim. Beyond that I'm not too sure.

IIRC, some (Arab) Sudanese nationalists did consider union with Egypt in late '40s/early '50s (I think) but decided that their interests would be better served by independence.
