1. May 1968, de Gaulle government brought down by Paris riots, popular front dominated by PCF takes power.
2. 1970s - domino effect across Europe, concluding with West Germany electing a pro-GDR chancellor and Tony Benn being elected Labour leader in 1979 after the 'convenient' death of Jim Callaghan on orders of KGB.
3. Soviets win the Cold War in Europe when they relatively peacefully annex the FRG into the GDR and the US, attempting to retaliate, faces attacks from local militia around their European bases.
4. America focuses her energies, under a battered and weary Reagan, on keeping Asia from falling under Soviet influence. Many more US troops shipped to Okinawa.
5. In mid 1990s, Japanese economic bubble bursts and rioting breaks out.
6. Over-filled Okinawa base is attacked by rioters who are machine-gunned by rowdy US troops.
7. Japanese PM orders Okinawa cleared of US troops. Jumpy President Dole panics, refuses and threatens nuclear consequences.
8. Soviets demand UN jurisdiction to occupy Japan to 'defend it from US aggression'. All security council members (now mostly Soviet client states) agree, except the USA.
9. Soviets move to take positions within Japan.
10. Japanese military resists.
11. USSR and USA begin nuking Japan, the USA to stop the Soviets and the USSR to prevent the Japanese from resisting their assault.
12. Population of Japan is reduced by 60% and by 1999 is essentially a Fourth World country.
13. Uneasy peace signed between USSR and USA on grounds they never attacked each other directly.
14. Anti-Japanese riots in America, Mangas burnt on piles around the country, Japanese culture seen as distinctly unamerican and confiscated from all youngsters.
15. No Japanophiles left in the USA by 2010.

Of course Japanese culture would get it's revenge when Gojira, Mothra, Desotroya and other radioactive monsters appear on the West coast
