AH Challenge: Communist Japan

I've actually read a bit of interesting stuff about Japanese anarchists around the turn of the century (the old turn of the century, not the most recent one). Of course, that's not exactly what you're looking for... But it's something to look into, a sort of unexplored chapter of history.

I think if Japan had turned to communist by 1930s instead of military rule supported by monarchy, Russians will take-over Japan temporarily by the end of WWII to prevent US from invading. The result for Communist Japan is Japan is just an upper middle income country by 2000 (after communist rule in Japan had collapsed in 1990 in OTL).

I think if Japan was communist, WWII would play out quite differently.

For one, Japan and the USSR would probably be allied, Japan would be supporting Chinese communists (possibly in addition to taking over China, though), Japan probably wouldn't be allied with Germany, and probably wouldn't attack the U.S.
