AH Challenge: Cities of the Arabian Desert

The AH Challenge is to have the Arabs from around the Dark Ages to the Renaissance, to expand and migrate outside of Damascus and Amman, basically Eastern Syria and Jordan and the edge of the Arabian Desert.

Now to do this I have a question? Is this possible? Could the Arabs expand and create cities outside of the Levant? The reason why is that Im having a Crusade TL in which Palestine falls under the Crusaders, but the Arabs, if it's possible, migrate further from the Levant and still connect Egypt to the Middle East.

Im just wondering if this can possibly happen

Do you mean moving the Arab heartlands outside Syria/Iraq/Egypt?
Err...You mean, outside the migrations and the cities created in North Africa, Spain, Eastern Africa, and Sindh? If so, I don't see well what you meant, sorry.

Yes, too lazy to do a map :p, but basically, east of Syria and Jordan, east of the Levant, and west of Iraq

Well, as you said then the desertic aera is quite an issue. You can have such desertic cities when you don't have another choice worth of mention (Road to Sudan by exemple).

But when it can be easily conturned by another way (Mossul by exemple; or even by boat)...This is pretty much useless : furthermore, the relative tininess of desertic lands makes such foundation quite useless.

As near as I can tell, the environment can't support that kind of population and won't when you have the fertile crescent all around it to compete.

ED: What LSCatilina said.

Oh. Yeah what LSCatilina said.

So there isnt really a way to have cities expand outside of Damascus.. Damn, I was really hoping that there could be a way, since basically the Levant is the only way of having control of the Mid East and everything outside of Syria and Jordan is dead

At most you have a handful of oasis cities in the Syrian desert - and these already exist at the time like Palmyra/Tadmor. It can't have the population that the Levantine coast, Mesopotamia, or Egypt can have.

Thats another way, what other cities are built on Oasis' in that area?

Their were cities in the Algerian desert that utilized aquifers/fossil water reserves, so their's that route.

Another way would be to have the Arabian civilizations borrow/utilize Roman or Indian Aquaducts or Canals.
