AH Challenge: Anarchist America

Sorry to bring this up again but do y'all think the Louisiana Purchase or something resembling it would occur in an Anarchist America? I don't see France (or Spain and Britian for that matter) being able to hold it for too long.

On another note: the American Transcendentalist movement, if not butterflied away, could provide a good buffer to post-colonial anarchist political theory:

"I heartily accept the motto, 'That government is best which governs least'; and I should like to see it acted up to more rapidly and systematically. Carried out, it finally amounts to this, which I also believe--'that government is best which governs not at all'; and when men are prepared for it, that is the kind of government which they will have."
-Henry David Thoreau

There could be a totally anarchist America, for about six months, until the British come back and kick the ever-loving crap out of the Non-United States of America. This really is ASB territory, because if the British don't retake the colonies, the French would take over for "Our own Good" and then we'd have New France, etc., etc.

Ethan Alan's ghost begs to differ. :p

Seriously, we were getting pretty good in the art of asymetrical warfare by then, and a confederation of local militias really wouldn't be much less of a deterent than a standing given it's pathetic condition for the first 60 years of the nation's existance.
