AH Challenge: Alternate President List

What if this was the list of US presidents up to today and describe the TL

Ronald Reagan 1981 (assassinated)
George Bush 1981-1989
Michael Dukakis 1989-1993
Dan Quayle 1993-1997
Joe Biden 1997-2001
Pat Buchanan 2001-2009
Ann Coulter 2009-

Where do I start with the "WTF!"

Buchanan and Coulter are insane even by the very crazy standards if the American right wing - they'd both result in Democrat blowouts, especially if Biden doesn't run for a second term and you get somebody else (Cliton or Gore perhaps?) running against Buchanan. He'd be great for extremist Republicans, but much of the rest of the country think he's a wacko.

Dukakis should never have been nominated (it shoulda been him be VP and Bentsen be POTUS, but anyways) as he didn't know what charisma was. They shoulda left him to make Quayle look like an idiot and let Bentsen beat up on presidential contenders.

I'd rather reccommend this for a list:

Ronald Reagan (Republican)
January 20, 1981 - October 30, 1981 (assassinated)
George H.W. Bush
(Republican)
October 30, 1981 - January 20, 1989
Lloyd Bentsen (Democrat)
January 20, 1989 - January 20, 1997
Joe Biden (Democrat)
January 20, 1997 - January 20, 2001
John McCain (Republican)
January 20, 2001 - January 20, 2009
Barack Obama (Democrat)
January 20, 2009 - present

The Tickets:

1984:
George Bush - Bob Doe (R)
Walter Mondale - Gary Hart (D)

1988:
Bob Dole - Dick Cheney (R)
Lloyd Bentsen - John Glenn (D)

1992:
Lamar Alexander - James Baker (R)
Lloyd Bentsen - John Glenn (D)

1996:
Dick Cheney - Dan Quayle (R)
Joe Biden - Bill Clinton (D)

2000:
John McCain - Christine Todd Whitman (R)
Joe Biden - Bill Clinton (D)

2004:
John McCain - Christine Todd Whitman (R)
Bill Clinton - John Kerry (D)

2008:
Christine Todd Whitman - Mitt Romney (R)
Barack Obama - Wesley Clark (D)

NO to Joe Biden! if you're looking for a 96 Dem, Paul Wellstone, Al Gore, John Kerry, and so on, John Glenn is the same age as Lloyd, Lloyd was old he'd need some one young, Dukakis fits,

I was looking at this thread earlier, and thinking about who GHWB would pick as his VP. I don't think it would be Dole. Dole was a pretty bad VP candidate for Ford in 1976 (talking about the "Democrat wars" of WW I and WW II in his debate with Mondale). Plus, I think there would be a push by the conservative wing of the GOP for Bush to nominate a conservative VP.

I did some research, and found an article from April 1988 talking about the GOP's Veepstakes. At that time, they seemed to believe that Bush's best bet was Governor Lamar Alexander of Tennessee. In 1984, Alexander would be halfway through his second term as Tennessee's governor (his OTL term in office was 1979-1987). Alexander was a southern conservative that could ease the tension between Bush and the right-wing of the party (and was Bush's Sec Education OTL).

Depending on what happens in this new time line, I think Alexander would be a much tougher opponent for Bentsen in 1988 than Dole would be.

^ Chuck Hagel as Coulter's VP? Notgonnahappen.com. Coulter is a whackjob, Hagel is considered a traitor by many Republicans.

What sort of post-apocalyptic dystopia is that from?

LOL;

Forgive me, I'm not taking this thread very seriously either. :D

Seriously though, getting Ann Coulter assassinated in office would be a strong improvement.

Getting Annie the Psycho assassinated before she has the ability to pollute the country would be the real improvement.

Yes.

My uncle knows him. Everyone in Colorado still loves him. I'm assuming that the allegations of the affair would hit him while in office and that he wouldn't run for reelection, but assumin that news of his affair didn't get out during his elections I think Gary Hart was the Democrats best candidate at the time.

I think he would have done better than Dukakis even with the affair...

Well if he had made it in 1984 (the Democrats were CRAZY to nominate Mondale instead of him), he and Donna Rice probably would have never crossed paths. However, I think there are past affairs that came to light because of the Donna Rice fiasco. Maybe those would hit him. Maybe we'd even have an alternate version of his "Follow me around" challenge to the press. Maybe in this timeline he's the Democratic president who gets caught with an intern.:D

Where do I start with the "WTF!"

There's no clarification as to their parties - getting rid of Reagan could concievably play all sorts of fun with people's ideological orientations. In 1981, Coulter would have only been about twenty, wouldn't she?
