AH Challenge - Allied Territorial Expansion post-WWII

I've seen some other timelines/scenarios where the Allies gain additional territory (usually parts of Germany) after WWII ended. In OTL, the Atlantic Charter stated first and foremost that the Allies were not seeking territorial expansion.

The second part, however, stated that territorial adjustments had be in accord with the wishes of the peoples concerned. What if the liberated peoples of Europe, with their economies and infrastructures devastated from the war, requested to become part of the Big Three? If this happened, how would the Allies (USA, UK, USSR) react and which Allied member would receive which part of Europe?

One major requirement is that this must be the choice of the people of the respective nation. It can't be because Churchill, Roosevelt and Stalin carved up the map and determined who got what part.

I'm mostly referring to Europe because the Pacific seems like it would would be harder to decide on: with Japan being occupied almost entirely by the US, China falling into civil war, and the colonies breaking away from the European powers.
