AH challenge: a wider Falklands war

Actually, Begin's support for Argentina during the war is apparently OTL. Speaking as a Brit who's always been sympathetic to Israel, this seriously annoyed me when I first heard about it. I suppose with the POD in mind this could have been done openly instead of secretly, with the Israelis seeking to join in by harassing the British military bases on Cyprus or something. I've no idea how this would play out in the US though.

THAT would be a very interesting, messy POD to play with. Any ideas how the US would go if two of America's closest allies started duking it out over the Falklands?

No evidence available until 29 years after the fact, just a claim?

As for the idea involving Cyprus there would remain that little detail of a prior involvment in Lebanon...

The book was written in Spanish, by an Argentinian journalist, presumably using Argentinian sources. What evidence do you have to say he has "no evidence"? Other than that you don't seem to want to believe it anyway?

If you want an alternative source, here's a summary of what looks like some rather good investigative journalism by the Argentine newspaper Clarin into Israeli support for Argentina during the Falklands War. (I've checked, the original Clarin articles are online if your Spanish is good enough.)

As for Cyprus - I was trying to make an on topic point, not suggesting it was a terribly likely development:rolleyes:

I have an idea for an escalation. . .

The Philippines sides with Argentina, and sends a contingent to the Falklands. In return, Argentina sends troops to help the Filipinos reconquer Sabah

Well aside from the problem of Philippines soldiers getting to Argentina they’d then have the issue of tropical troops trying to deal with an arctic environment which they have no equipment for or experience with.
